SCSO Family Wraparound Services Tour | Erik Swenk
I had the privilege of meeting with leadership for a tour of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office Family Wraparound Services. The visit included programs such as the Police Athletic League summer camp for youth, SNAP (Stop Now And Plan) coaching for young people facing life challenges, and the Eugene Gregory Memorial Youth Academy for expelled or truant students, among others. We also discussed recent changes in Child Protective Services and visited the Juvenile Assessment Center and Juvenile Detention Center — notable locally because it is operated fully by the Sheriff’s Office rather than the Department of Juvenile Justice.
With so many services and partners in Seminole County, Wraparound Services functions as a practical hub: addressing needs on the front end rather than waiting for problems to reach the back end. That approach reflects Sheriff Dennis Lemma’s philosophy, and it is one reason other agencies look to Seminole County for guidance.
If you know someone who needs help, reach out to Wraparound Services through the Sheriff’s Office — there is a strong chance a program or resource already exists for them.
I was also glad to begin connecting this team with Peggy Dobrowolski and the Wekiva Foster Closet so shared resources can go further.
